Norm is a lawyer with a broad experience concerning union certification, the negotiation of collective agreements, grievance arbitration, labour conflicts, and related issues. He is also often called upon to negotiate and draft employment contracts and help resolve disputes arising during the course of employment or upon its termination.
Norm has represented renowned clients in the field of artistic production. He is one of the few lawyers in Quebec to know in depth the unions and artistic guilds. He is regularly consulted by producers of video games, films, stage shows, sound recordings, and video clips, producers’ associations, promoters and their associations, as well as broadcasters in Canada and the United States.
He represented the Québec Government in discussions on film dubbing and the renewal of film and DVD distributor agreements between the Québec Government and major U.S. studios.
Norm presented arguments before the Québec parliamentary commission on proposed amendments to the Act respecting the professional status and conditions of engagement of performing, recording and film artists. He has given many lectures and published numerous articles on labour law, employment law, and artistic productions. He co-authored the first reference work on the Act respecting the professional status and conditions of engagement of performing, recording and film artists.
From 2015 to 2020, Norm was a member of the Human resources committee of the Board of trustees of the National Arts Centre. He also was a director of the Ballets Jazz de Montréal dance company from 2003 to 2008.
